Life at the Ronald McDonald House Giving back to your community is a very generous thing to do for those in need. Having a philanthropy that donates food to families in need is a very heartwarming experience. That's why Ronald is the place to be. The Ronald McDonald house in Danville was built in 1981. People decided it would be a great idea to have one in the area so families with sick kids could feel comfortable and secure and so families don't have to feel the stress of financial struggle while their family member is in the hospital.
It's delightful when you see others coming together to give back to people in need. "Ronald is my favorite because I love to see the impact on the families that are staying there since Ronald is something I do every week," stated Morgan, one of the philanthropy chairs in Theta's sorority. Getting to speak to some of the girls in the sorority was a huge eye opener. Theta's biggest philanthropy is going to the Ronald McDonald house and cooking for the families that are staying there. "Spending time with your friends but then also giving back to others is why I do this," Izzy yells with excitement. After sitting down with Izzy and Morgan for a quick chat, I learned a lot about what their sorority does for Ronald. Typically, a group of girls get together and show up to the sorority house and get all their ingredients together to start preparing dinner. Then once they make their meals, they hop in the car and drive it to Ronald and then serve the families dinner. It was nice hearing about their experiences with Ronald since Theta is an origination that gives back to them weekly.
The Ronald McDonald house is a building that is a set up cozy just like a house, so it is welcoming to families that have children in the hospital. From the outside of the building, it looks like any ordinary white two-story building. When you enter, you are greeted by the kind front desk lady. She is just as tall as the counter you can barely see her little head as she approaches the front window. She has short, curly hair and wears these huge glasses that look like they are going to slide off her face at any moment. Once you push pasted the main heavy doors, you immediately get this cozy, welcoming feeling as you walk in and see the living room and grand staircase. The huge rectangular fish tank fills the right side of the living room. On the left is where all the magic happens in the big square-shaped kitchen that has white walls and brown cabinets. The amazing smell of food fills the air as the dinner gets laid out on the center island. The garlic from the garlic knots immediately hits you in the face the second you walk in. The steam from the spaghetti with meat sauce flowed quickly out of the pan. Then you could see girls in the corner of the kitchen preparing all the stuff to go into the salad. Once everything has its final touches and is ready to be served, the girls then serve the families dinner. Seeing the family's smiles light up the room is such a rewarding feeling.
